    בשנה האחרונה ישראל חוקר את תולדות משפחות שפיץ וגולדשטיין שהיגרו בראשית המאה ה־20, לפני שתי מלחמות העולם, מרוסיה לארגנטינה. בשנות השבעים, עקב משטר הדיכוי בארגנטינה, עלו לישראל וחלקם נשארו בארגנטינה. הספר שנכתב כולל רקע היסטורי, מאפיינים תרבותיים, סיפור תולדות המשפחה ומידע על בני המשפחה בעבר ובהווה. בהרצאה הוא יתייחס גם ללקחים שהפיק.

    A Suitcase Factory in Buenos Aires: The Journey of the Spitz and Goldstein Families from Russia to Argentina and Israel, presented‭ ‬in English by Israel Ben-Dor

    Over the past year, Israel has researched the history of the Spitz and Goldstein families, who emigrated from Russia to Argentina in the early 20th century, before the two world wars. In the 1970s, due to the oppressive regime in Argentina, they immigrated to Israel, while some family members remained in Argentina. The book that was written includes historical background, cultural characteristics, the story of the family’s history, and information about family members past and present. In the lecture, Israel will also refer to the lessons he has learned.

    אוצר של חמישה מפקדי אוכלוסין מפורטים, שיזם סר משה מונטפיורי במאה ה-19. המפקדים מונים את היהודים בכל אחת מקהילות ארץ הקודש. תוצג סקירה כללית של המפקדים, כולל גורמים שהשפיעו על צורתם ותוכנם. כמו כן, נדון בשיטות להערכת סימונים ספציפיים ולמקסום המידע ממקורות אלו, בדגש על נשים. יובאו דוגמאות מקהילות שונות, בעיקר יהודי צפון אפריקה.

    The Challenges of the Montefiore Censuses for Research on Jews in 19th-Century Eretz-Israel
    Presented in Hebrew by Dr. Michal Ben Ya'akov
    A treasure chest of five detailed censuses, initiated by Sir Moses Montefiore in the 19th century, listing members of the Jewish communities throughout the Holy Land. An overview of the censuses will be presented, including factors that influenced their form and content. Methods will be discussed to evaluate specific notations and to maximize the information in these sources, mainly about women. Examples will be given from various Jewish communities, particularly North Africa.
