There are two lectures on the program:

“Shlomo of 1000 Wives and the Khan Warriors” (Hebrew), presented by Mr. Dror Voikhansky

Solomon was born in 1832 to a Jewish family of Kuzari-Mongol origin in the Mogilev district of Belarus, with the name Haim-Bar Voikhansky. His extended family lived in Vitebsk. As a small child, he was kidnapped into the Czar’s army and advanced to the officer corps. Already in the army, he had relationships with many women with whom he had had children. When he was in Siberia he decided to desert from the army, and with the help of his wealthy family he bought false papers. He had many false names and a rabbinic title..

He was the assistant of the Tzemach Tzedek, the founder of Chabad Hasidism, who suggested that he immigrate to Eretz Israel and settle in Hebron. That is how the Haimson dynasty was founded. He returned to Russia and progressed. In the name of business, he went around Poland and Romania and left children everywhere.

His descendants were among the Russian revolutionaries, famous Zionists, the first immigrants to Eretz Israel and well-known cultural figures.

Dror Voikhansky is a professional guide. He was born and raised on Kibbutz Ashdot Yaakov. He now lives on Kibbutz Mishmar Ha’emek. Dror works on genealogy as a hobby and is aided in his research by DNA testing.

How to Communicate Better with Researchers and Relatives”. (English), presented by Attorney Rony Golan

Modern genealogical research requires cooperation between researchers from different countries. The genealogical research also involves contacting new and old relatives in order to obtain information about the subject of the study. Although modern media make communication easier, they often involve unexpected difficulties. In the lecture, we will try to address the challenges we face in communicating with colleagues and relatives in different countries and how they can be harnessed for the benefit of our genealogy research.

Rony Golan is an Israeli lawyer and a professional genealogist. He is a graduate of the Tel Aviv University Law Faculty and member of the Israeli Bar.

He teaches law at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He has spoken at many IAJGS conferences. He is a member and legal advisor of the International Institute for Jewish Genealogy and Paul Jacobi Center (IIJG) in Jerusalem.

In addition, we will be honoring the volunteers who have contributed their time and effort into transcribing and digitizing otherwise unavailable documents
