The weather prevented our lecture last week and so the next IGRA lecture will now be held in Petach Tikva on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 19:00.
The subject of DNA and genealogy is a “hot topic”. There have been many advances in recent years. Andi Alpert Ziegelman will be talking to us about “How DNA Helps Build Family Trees”.
Andi came to understand that her Alperovich family was a branch of the illustrious Halpern rabbinical family. Andi used old and new books to gather all the Halpern family trees she could find, to try and figure out by Naming Pattern Analysis where her Alperovich branch broke off the greater Halpern tree.
When DNA testing information became available, Andi tested and began to analyze her test results, and those of other Halperns, to see if a DNA connection could be made. She is currently still involved in this DNA project. Andi’s lecture will explain how DNA contributes to making family trees.
