We look forward to seeing many of you on Monday, November 9, 2015 as IGRA presents its Heshvan Event as part of its programming during International Jewish Genealogy Month. (Yad Ben-Zvi, 14 Ibn Gvirol, Jerusalem – 17:30-21:00)
The evening will include explanations of the holdings of Yad Ben-Zvi, Historical Photos as Documents & Genealogical Sources – Dr. Lavi Shai, Preserving Photographs, Scanning & Digital Backups – Philip Trauring AND there will be the presentation of the annual IGRA Volunteer Awards.
With the assistance of our dedicated volunteers we have managed to prepare 77 new databases during this past year and more than DOUBLED our lines of data.
Two of our volunteers have been chosen to receive the Mathilde Tagger Award of Recognition for Volunteering with the IGRA Databases 2015. This is awarded every year to chosen volunteers among the many that donated their time and effort to build databases dealing with Eretz Israel. Award recipients receive a year membership to the Israel Genealogy Research Association (IGRA).
Mathilde Tagger (1933-2014) was deeply involved in Jewish genealogy both in Israel and abroad for twenty years, especially in the field of Sephardic genealogy. Mathilde published numerous articles in various Jewish genealogical journals and was co-author of “Guidebook for Sephardic and Oriental Genealogical Sources in Israel”, Avotaynu, 2006; “Dictionary of Bulgarian Jewish Surnames”, Avotaynu, 2014 and “Dictionary of Sephardic Given Names”, Avotaynu, 2015. She built and published many databases, available on www.sephardicgen.com. In 2007 she received the Life Achievement Award at the IAJGS conference. Since 2008 she headed the digitization team of the Montefiore Census. Mathilde was a source of inspiration to all of us involved in preparing databases. Without her pioneering efforts we couldn’t have reached this stage today.
