Ingrid Rockberger was born in England and came on aliyah with her family in 1981. Ingrid has been involved in community work and volunteering since her teenage years. She was involved in WIZO (Womens International Zionist Organization) while still living in England, and prior to her aliyah was Aviv (Young Womens Division) Chair. While living in Israel Ingrid was also Managing Editor and Publisher of an English-language news magazine called IN ENGLISH, and was Head of the English Department of Docostory, a Ra’anana-based company documenting peoples life stories. During this period, in conjunction with Yad Vashem, Ingrid wrote and edited numerous books on the lives of Holocaust survivors. She was Chair of World WIZO Publicity and Communications Division and Editor of their magazine WIZO Review.
Ingrid has been involved in genealogy for over 20 years. Ingrid served as President of JFRA (Jewish Family Research Association), on the Board of the IGS and as a founder of IGRA. She was Chair and Joint Chair of IGRA’s Ra’anana location organizing lectures and events.
She attended the IAJGS conferences in Jerusalem in 2004 and 2015 (where she was on the Organizing Committee) and Warsaw in 2018. Ingrid was a volunteer editor for two years on the JewishGen Yizkor Book project and has been a volunteer transcriber of the IGRA databases. Most recently Ingrid was Coordinator of IGRA’s CSI (Crowd Sourced Indexing) English Projects.
She extensively researched her own family in Poland and the family of her husband. She was always at the end of her telephone and on her computer, to help others.
Ingrid will be sorely missed, she made a difference in the lives of all she met. May her memory be for a blessing.
Ingrid is survived by her husband, three children and seven grandchildren.
