In great sorrow, we announce the passing, on Rosh Hashana, of our founding member and loyal friend, Rabbi Henry (Hank) F. Skirball z”l.

He was a graduate of Harvard and Hebrew Union College HUC. He earned his doctorate from Columbia as well as an honorary doctorate and the presidential medallion from the Hebrew Union College. He was a member of the faculties of Northwestern University and HUC. He was a U.S. Army chaplain in Washington, DC and Germany, served the Hillel Foundations at Miami University of Oxford, Ohio, the University of Chicago, and Northwestern University. Hank served as National Director of the National Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY), the Association of Jewish Youth Directors of North America among other positions.

In 1971 Hank and his family came on Aliyah to Israel where he served as Director of Youth Programs for the Reform Judaism movement and chairman of the Department of Education and Culture of the World Zionist Organization He served as national president of the Association of Americans and Canadians in Israel (AACI) and chairman of the board of Interns for Peace as well as chairman of the board of Hiddush – For Religious Freedom & Equality in Israel.
