IGRA has added 10 new databases and updated two others, adding over 26,000 new listings. The following summary will give you a good idea about our latest additions. In order to release new records quickly IGRA posts some records in their original form without transliteration.
1865-1914 Registry Forms of British Nationals registered at the Vice Consulate in Jaffa – ย (images available) update
During the Ottoman Empire, those residents without Turkish citizenship, may be found registered with one of the foreign consulates. If they were not originally British citizens, they were called protรฉgรฉs. The ledgers showed that they registered every year that they resided in the country. The collection includes 2,687 listings. These microfilms are from the Israel State Archives, and are in the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.
1906 Voters’ List for the Election of Hakham Bashi Jerusalem โ (images available)
Hakham Bashi – ืืื ืืืฉื is the Turkish name for the Chief Rabbi of the nation’s Jewish community. In the time of the Ottoman Empire, it was also used for the chief rabbi of a particular region of the empire, such asย Palestine. This poster lists 210 people from the Pinsk Kolel, Karlin Kolel and the Raysin Kolel who could vote in the election.
1908-1923 Births in Tel Aviv โ (images available)
The Tel Aviv-Yafo archives has a collection of three ledgers recording births for this period and the ledger of one mohel. The ledgers of the births include the date, place of birth, child’s name, father’s name and sometimes the name of the mother.
1923ย Voters List for the Jewish Committee of Jerusalem โ (images available)
During the British Mandate there was Jewish Committee, separate from the municipality in Jerusalem, that represented them.ย The lists include 6,806 voters.ย The documents are from the Jerusalem Municipal Archives.
1936-1948 British Mandate Guards Force (Notrim) Collection โ (images available)
The Notrim were Jewish auxiliaries, mainly police, set up in 1936 by the British in Mandatory Palestine during the 1936โ39 Arab revolt. These ledgers are an everyday record of the administration of the guards through 1948 throughout the country. This month’s release includes 5,309 listings for family names starting with Aleph. There are additional ledgers for surnames starting with the letter Aleph. The documents are from the Israel State Archives.
1941-1976 Landlord Association of Jerusalem โ (images available)
The British Mandatory government and later the government of the State of Israel required that all organizations to be registered. The organizations informed the government every time they held elections of the officers. The officers listed served during the years 1941-1976. There are 421 listings. The documents are from the Israel State Archives.
1936 Yokneam Moshava Founders โ (images available)
Yokneam is a farming settlement founded in 1936. This contains 2 lists of the founding members prepared by different people and are not the same. These documents are from the Yokneam Moshava Archive.
1939 Voters for Knesset Israel from the Yokneam Moshava โ (images available)
Knesset Israel was the national governing body for the Jewish community during the British Mandate period. The lists are lists from various years for various communities and serve as a substitute for census lists that do not exist. The lists include residents 18 and older. This list includes 104 residents of Yokneam that can vote. This document is from the Yokneam Moshava Archive.
Name Changes 1957 & 1960 – update
Official name changes were published in the government publication Yalkut HaPirsumin (Official Gazette) through 1973.ย There can be many reasons for a name change and all official changes go through the Ministry of Interior. This release includes the publications of 1957 & part of 1960 and includes 6,126 names. These publications are in the National Library of Israel, law libraries and offices, and partially on the internet.
1954 Agricultural Union Yokneam โ (images available)
The Agricultural Union is an organization of settlements based on farming. This document lists the members from Yokneam, how many rooms there are in the house, how many children are in the family and if grandparents are living with them. This document is from the Yokneam Moshava Archive.
The IGRA databases are now searchable to all registrants. The search results page is also available to all registrants. Additional details regarding most databases are only available to paid IGRA members. Certain exceptions exist due to requests of the specific archives.
