Pamela Weisberger will be in Israel the second week of November and there will be two opportunities to learn from her.
On Monday, November 11, 2013 Pamela will be speaking at the National Library of Israel in Jerusalem from 14:00-16:00. Her lectures will be in the Music Center Lecture Room on the 1st floor and will be in English.
2:00 PM: Searching the Gesher Galicia Website: An online tour of Gesher Galicia, the one-stop resource for researching families and ancestral towns from this former Austro-Hungarian province.
3:00 PM: It’s News to Me! Historical Newspaper Research for Genealogists: Learn techniques for locating unexpected insights into your relatives’ lives by harnessing this research tool.

The second lecture opportunity will be in Tel Aviv at the IGS Branch meeting being held at the Sha’ar Zion Library in Beit Ariella, Shaul HaMelech 25 – Wednesday, November 13. The lecture will begin at 20:00. Pamela’s topic then will be: Austria, Poland, & Ukraine: 3 Countries, 5 Archives & 12 Wonderful Days of Discovery
In April 2013, Gesher Galicia’s president, Pamela Weisberger, and board member, John Diener, traveled to Austria, Poland, and Ukraine. Over twelve days they visited archives in Vienna, Warsaw, Przemysl, Lviv and Ternopil. In Warsaw they attended the opening of the new Museum of the History of Polish Jews, followed by an incredible dinner with Count Peter (Piotr) Pininski, great grandson of the magnate nobleman who once owned the Galician town of Grzymalow where John’s father and Pamela’s grandfather were born. Later they visited Grzymalow, Ukraine and its ruined synagogue, cheder and decimated Jewish cemetery.
Learn about the trip’s highlights, the challenges of archival research in different locales (from white gloves to burnt documents and moldy dust) and the exceptional opportunity to connect past to present through investigative genealogical research.
Gesher Galicia is the special interest group for those researching their Jewish roots in Galicia, a province of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, which today is part of eastern Poland and southwestern Ukraine: www.geshergalicia.org.

Pamela Weisberger is the 1st Vice President and Program Chair for the Jewish Genealogical Society of Los Angeles, President and Research Coordinator forGesher Galicia, and has co-chaired the 2010 IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy. As a professional genealogist, videographer, she created the Galician Archival Records Project. She has researched in Polish, Ukrainian, German, Hungarian and Israeli archives and speaks internationally on a variety of topics. Her areas of expertise are 19th – 20th century directories, newspapers, court records and cadastral maps. She holds a B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis and an M.S. from Boston University and lives in Santa Monica, California.
